I love when families decide to hire me as their Folly Beach Photographer. Being able to document families having fun at the beach will always bring me so much joy! It can be even more fun with extended families get together and we can document those precious moments with grandparents, aunt, uncles, and cousins!
When scheduling an extended family session, it can be hard to coordinate everyone’s outfits but having outfits planned ahead of time can really make such a impact on your final images. As your Folly Beach photographer, I have a few tips to help you style your family for your Folly Beach extended family session.
Let the moms and women of the family choose their outfits first.
Lets be honest, the women of the family probably decided to schedule this session and have a specific vision for their images. They also are the ones that care most about what they wear and how they feel. It’s always best to let the women of the family choose their outfits first and have everyone else coordinate around them!
Focus on coordinating outfits, not matching
I would avoid everyone wearing the same color. We want everyone to focus on coordinating and not matching. Don’t be afraid of adding color and prints, I just recommend choosing 2-3 colors and focusing on various shades of those colors rather than having everyone in the same exact color or shirts.
Avoid busy patterns, big jewerly, and logos
We want the main focus to remain on you and your beautiful family. Busy patterns, big jewelry, or logos will only distract from that main focus.
Add some texture/layers
Textures and layers photograph beautifully especially at Folly Beach which can be windy. Choosing an outfit that flows nice in the wind will be flattering and photograph beautifully.
