Including your dog – Charleston Newborn Photographer.

Are you looking for a Charleston Newborn Photographer that has experience with including pets?

If so, I’m here to help!

Over this past year, I have included dogs in so many newborn and family sessions. Charleston is such a pet friendly community and I know like so many families our dog, Ki, was our first baby! As long as your pet is adjusting well to the new baby and your newborn is safe during the session, I would love to welcome your pet into our newborn session.

My newborn sessions are designed to document your family as it is right now and if this season includes fur babies as well, then welcoming them into the photos we capture is a must. Here are three tips from a Charleston newborn photographer on how to include your dog in your in-home newborn photo session.

Three tips for including your dog in your newborn photography session from a Charleston Newborn Photographer –

  1. Go on a walk.

Either taking your dog for a walk or playing fetch in the backyard are both great ways to help burn off some energy before our newborn photoshoot and hopefully help them stay calm during our time together. You could also practice some basic commands if you want leading up to our session to help prepare your dog but don’t worry if they don’t follow directions well, I have lots of tricks so we can still capture photos of your whole family together.

2. Let your dog get used to me.

I have grown up with dogs and I am very comfortable with all dogs, big and small.  When I arrive at your house, I will spend a few minutes letting your dog greet me and get used to me. This will hopefully also allow them to get rid of a lot of energy and be calm and comfortable during the session.

3. Relax & have fun.

My goal is always for you to be comfortable and enjoy our time together. Getting stressed out or worrying about your dogs behavior will only make the newborn session more stressful for everyone. Don’t worry if your dog isn’t sitting sit or laying down for long periods of time. The great thing about lifestyle photography is that I get to capture real authentic moments for your family and the photos of your playing and interacting with your dog and family are usually everyone’s favorite!

I recommend reaching out at the beginning of your second trimester since I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so that I can provide the best experience for each one of my clients. There is something so special about welcoming a new baby into the family and I’d love to be the Charleston Newborn Photographer that helps to document this season for your family.
